Laura Motes started on the Athens-Clarke County Police Department as a police officer in the Uniform Patrol Division in early 1993 after Motes graduated from Military Police Officer Basic training with honors. She performed many police services during this time, including responding to calls for service, investigations, traffic enforcement, and public safety. She eventually rose to Sergeant over her 21-year career with the force.
